With Rain and wind threatening the day before, Washington State racers were prepared for yet ANOTHER wet opener to the season. Luckily, the roads dried up, the temperature soared and out of the woodwork they came.

2010 marks the first year of the IJM.org racing team hosting the annual Frostbite TT and it was huge success. Great management, an onslaught of volunteers and a sold out field (thanks to the El Nino winter training!) proved that we are ALL ready for this season to begin. IJM.org racers themselves came out in force and put the white and grey and almost every podium. Congrats to all of our racers!

SEATTLE, WA (December 18, 2009)—USA Cycling announced the recipients of its annual Club of the Year awards. Thumbprint Racing was recognized as Best New Club of the Year for its performance on the bike as well as its commitment to serving the community off the bike. Thumbprint Racing is based in Seattle, Washington and is comprised of both women and men who enjoy training hard, racing fast and giving back to the community. Riders have reached the podium at local, regional, national and international competitions.
Thumbprint took to the roads, track and cyclocross trails for the first time in 2009 with a mission to give back to the community where it is based. Area businesses purchased advertising space on team uniforms to promote two charities; Washington, D.C.-based International Justice Mission and Seattle’s own FareStart. Riders were actively engaged in raising awareness and money for these designated “team sponsors.”
FareStart and IJM are organizations near and dear to the hearts of several founding members of the team. “We are fortunate to be involved with like-minded teammates who appreciate the opportunity to give back to the community where we live, work and race,” remarks team co-founder and sponsor Guy Tucker.
FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Last year, FareStart served over 22,000 meals to Seattle area shelters and provided job training to over 600 homeless clients. International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.

Of the more than 2,200 USA Cycling member clubs, 70 applied for the awards program. Clubs were judged on several key areas including race promotion, membership composition, instructional clinics and seminars, club activities, charitable contributions, and racing performance.

Thumbprint Racing is one of 8 USA Cycling-sanctioned clubs recognized for outstanding programs in the 2009 season. All will receive complimentary registration fees for the 2010 racing season.

As he settles down for a recovery beer (and something deep fried) Guy Tucker shares his Pan-Am Games results-

“I took bronze in the scratch race which featured the Argentine favorites crashing themselves out with 5 to go (for no particularly good reason). Qualified for the bronze medal sprint round but, after winning the first heat, I lost the next two heats. Vindication came in the pursuit bronze medal ride an hour later. With just over one kilometer to go, I was two seconds down. Started ramping up the last kilo and beat the #3 seed with a second to spare. Best ‘win’ of the season.”

Congrats Guy!
